Itinerary 8: Torre di Ruggiero, Serra San Bruno e Mongiana
Take the SS 106 to the south Soverato junction where you take the SS 182 passing through Central Chiaravalle arriving, in about 1 hours drive, at Torre di Ruggero, a small town in the midst of hazel, chestnut and oak trees, at the foot of the massif of the Serre Calabre, in this very picturesque place is the shrine of the Madonna delle Grazie well known for the miracles attributed to it, and therefore a destination of pilgrimage for millions of people arriving from all parts of Calabria and the world, especially during the feast of 7th and 8th September.
Proceeding along the SS 182 you reach Serra San Bruno in the heart of the region of the Serre, in a vegetation of fir and beech trees of a breath-taking and unexpected beauty, knowing that you are only 30 minutes from the sea. The town was founded in 1094 by the monk Bruno of Cologne who founded the Order of Carthusian monks. You need to visit the Carthusian monastery and the Hermitage of the Saint. From Serra S.B. driving along the SS 110 for 9 km you reach the small village of Mongiana formed in 1775 around the iron foundries of the Bourbons.
 

Mongiana was a major iron and steel plant with blast furnaces and refineries where machinery, weapons, measuring and precision instruments were made from the ore; of all this you can only the remains, the village and Villa Vittoria enchanting forest park with interesting routes such as lost fruit, minerals, wildlife, etc. ...
