It 'an archaeological park of considerable value and can be reached in 30 minutes along the SS 106 towards Soverato, immediately after Catanzaro Lido. Its foundation dates back to when the Greeks were returning from the Trojan War and could be attributed to Ulysses or to the Athenian Menesteo. Later it became a Roman colony in fact the ruins of the Roman Forum, the Theatre, the Necropolis and a magnificent Byzantine Basilica are quite visible; and you can visit the museum. You can proceed to Squillace to visit the historic centre with the Cathedral and the Norman Castle, come down again to Stalettì (Town from which the people of Botricelli have descended) where you can visit the remains of the Mother Church, the Convent of St. Gregory Thaumaturgist, the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, the palaces of the nobility. The tour can be concluded with a stroll on the promenade of Soverato and return home enjoying the view of the cliffs of Pietragrande, Caminia and Copanello which houses the tomb of Cassiodoro. | |
